Experience South Africa’s northernmost province, the Limpopo, and the eastern tip of Botswana. Follow the natural border between these two countries, the Limpopo River, mostly on foot. This immensely beautiful region remains poorly known by the travellers who too often choose to go South (or North in Botswana), missing out on the most interesting and untamed of South Africa’s reserves in the Limpopo. The Kruger Park, over-visited in the South, remains relatively untouched at its extreme North and is a place of pristine serenity. The Tuli block, the eastern tip of Botswana, is one of the best- kept secrets of Botswana. There is no better place for walking safaris and the unique experience of riding or mountain biking amongst big game! Finally this journey will also take you to the mountainous and subtropical region of the Soutpansberg and the national park of Mapungubwe where its natural beauty only competes with the richness of its archaeological and historic heritage site.
Day by day...
Day 1: Johannesburg...
Arrival at Johannesburg airport in the morning. You are welcomed by your guide and transferred to the guesthouse. We spend most of the day discovering Soweto including its distinctive slums and neighborhoods and will be surprised by the vibrant and sympathic character of this place. We take our breakfast in a local restaurant (included). In the evening we dine in a nice restaurant of one of Johannesburg lively areas (at your expense).
Breakfast and the visit of the City included
Days 2-3: The Soutpansberg…
We set off northwards, 250 kms beyond Johannesburg, towards a spectacular and majestic mountain range, the Soutpansberg. The sub tropical climate of this region shaped a landscape of valley as well as green hills and beautiful forests with over 300 species of trees including the famous baobab. With its restricted access roads, the Soutpansberg is an ideal place for an exploration on foot. Our base is a small camp situated within a wildlife sanctuary. We shall visit the reserve essentially on foot. Nights in bungalows.
Days 4-6: The North of Kruger Park…
We set off today for the largest national park in Southern Africa, the world-renowned Kruger National Park. The north of the Kruger Park also known as Punda Maria and Pafuri remains less visited and this is where we can really discover a wild and attractive Kruger park. Overnight in chalet in a small intimate camp.
Days 7-8: Mapungubwe National Park …
Today, we leave northward to stop in the last South African park, the Park of Mapungubwe. Declared a World Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2003, Mapungubwe conceals historical treasures that no one can imagine.
For bird enthusiasts, more than 400 birds' species have been identified on this site! Overnight in cottages in the park for the 2 days.
Days 9-13: Mashatu Reserve - Botswana…
For the last part of our journey, we cross the border of Botswana, and are going to spend the last 4 nights in the reserve of Mashatu, on the north bank of Limpopo.
We invite you to discover Mashatu under a totally unique angle, essentially on foot but also, for those who want to taste the other exciting adventures, in MOUNTAIN BIKE and on horseback (riders experienced only!).
We spend the first three nights in small unfenced and tented camps, in the middle of the bush without electricity to provide the visitor with a real feeling of being in total symbiosis with the surroundings.
Day 13: After a final 4x4 morning safari we leave the reserve and drive back to Johannesburg to arrive on time to catch your plane. End of the Trip!
